Puppet Theatre comes to Hickling - Day 1

Day 1...

Today we welcome Zara from the Norwich Puppet Theatre to school.

First we did some acting and pretended we were in a range of different habitats/environments. After that we drew the environment that we liked the best.

After playtime we thought about different animals and how we might merge two animals together, like crossing an elephant and a rhino making a rhinophant!

We then drew a design of our puppet (ready for tomorrow), thinking about what it likes to eat, drink, if it had any predators etc.

After lunch we worked in pairs to create our own backdrops/environments.

Check out the photos below for the end products...they are immense!

Forest School Week 1...

Chilly but fun!

This week group one got back outside for their first session of Forest School for the year! They joined up with the pre-school and worked as a team on a variety of projects.

It's official WE LOVE FOREST SCHOOL - even in January!

Trip to the Norwich Puppet Theatre...

We were inspired...

This week we were lucky enough to visit Norwich Puppet Theatre! We saw a version of Thumbelina where a very clever lady used different types of puppets to tell the story. She changed her voice for each character and used music to assist!

We had lunch inside the theatre and afterwards had a little play in their grounds. We could hear the cars from the roundabout - very different to quiet Hickling! No tractors to be seen.

After that we learnt about the different types of puppets from Emma who works at the theatre and then we went back onto the stage to ask questions and learn tips about how to perform using puppets.

Our visit got us really excited for next week when the Puppet Theatre comes to Hickling!!

Some photos below...

Cody was so inspired with this trip that he went home and worked with his mum to create his very own puppet theatre, complete with string puppets!

Happy New Year!

Back with a bang!

We have been back at school two days and cracked straight on with out learning!

In maths we have been learning about money, adding different coins to find the total. We all agreed that it's really important to learn about this and we've made great progress already.

In English we thought hard about New Years resolutions. We made one for home and for school, thinking about words that extend our sentences and make them longer such as; because, but, so and if.

Our resolutions are on the board on the way into the hall. Have a look at what we are hoping to improve on! The teachers also made resolutions...if anyone sees Miss Turner near the flapjack box tell her to step away!!

During the holidays Miss Turner dropped our reverse advent calendar off at Stalham Baptist Church for the food-bank.

Below is a photo of our donation being handed in. Thank you so much for your donations, we are making a real difference to peoples lives locally.
