Harvest Festival and Farewell Mrs West...

Poems, Songs and Prayers...

Today we celebrated our Harvest Festival at Hickling Infant School. The children performed poetry, songs and even acted out the story of the Enormous Turnip

All the children performed beautifully and we were really proud of them

We followed this by a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated cakes and a MASSIVE thanks to everyone who donated money to such a great cause.

We also said a fond farewell to our caretaker Mrs West. She has worked at Hickling for a long time and we are very grateful for everything she has done for the school.

Below are some photos from this afternoon...

Week 3...

Peace at Last!

There is no peace for the children at Hickling Infant School - too much learning to be done!

However the children in Reception have been learning about a story where the main character finally finds some peace; Peace at Last!

The children retold the story at the end of the week with stick puppets in our puppet theatre! Miss Turner and Mrs Bush recorded the performance on the iPad and then we all watched it, along with parents during assembly.

We also talked a lot in Reception about day and night, this then led our learning into looking at clocks and we even made our own!

In topic with Year 1 and 2 this week we have been learning about where our families live. We used the computers on google maps to find our houses by using our postcode. We also visited google earth and viewed many locations around the world!!

Week 2...

The start of Forest Schools...

This week Miss Wones started up Forest Schools again at Hickling. Everyone had a great time getting stuck back into the activities and some people took full advantage of the windy weather!! Tommy found a newt and we picked many fallen apples from the tree on the school field, we shared them out and took them home...

In the classroom this week our new Reception have been settling in well with some choosing to bring in home learning to share with the rest of the school.

This week in English, Year 1 and 2 have been making booklets about our own houses; just like Estate Agents do!
We described a different area of our house each day using adjectives and finally, made a front cover so people knew what the booklet was about.
Check out some of the work below!

During our topic lesson this week we learnt about different types of maps. First we investigated maps and wrote what we thought they were for. Then we had a choice of maps from our local area but sneaky Miss Arnold removed some of the points of interest! We had to work out where the points of interest should be on the map and make our own symbol and label to represent them.

Back to School...

Welcome Back...

We have had a lovely few days back at Hickling Infant School! We welcomed Amelia, Nicholas, Thomas and Beau to our Reception class and we also said hello to Mrs Bush who has come to work at Hickling too.

Year 1 and 2 have stepped into their new roles beautifully and have been fantastic role models to the new children; showing them around and helping them when they need it.

Reception have got straight into exploring their environment...blackberry picking in the lane and collecting apples from the tree in our outside area.

Today some children chose to help Miss Arnold make an apple and blackberry crumble for the other children to enjoy!

Reception and Year 1 also visited the food fayre at Hickling Chapel this week. All the local residents were very happy to see our smiling faces and were impressed with our politeness.

Below are some photos of our learning this week...
